SCENE I. A public place.
From the part I walk in
Enter from Stage Right and hug Benvolio.

Romeo, the hate I bear
thee can afford
No better term than this,--thou art a villain. You are evil, Romeo, and I hate you. He wants to anger Romeo.

slowly and with loving smile
Tybalt, the reason that
I have to love thee
Doth much excuse the appertaining rage
To such a greeting: villain am I none;
Therefore farewell; I see thou know'st me not. I love you as a brother and I am not evil. So goodbye, I understand you do not know me. This is to scape a brawl between them.

Boy, this shall not
excuse the injuries
That thou hast done me; therefore turn and draw. You have injured me by not fighting with me.

I do protest, I never
injured thee,
But love thee better than thou canst devise,
Till thou shalt know the reason of my love:
And so, good Capulet,--which name I tender
As dearly as my own, pause --be satisfied. I love your last name and I will not hurt you.

Draws and points at Tybalt's face
Good king of cats,
nothing but one of your nine
lives; that I mean to make bold withal, and as you
shall use me hereafter, drybeat the rest of the
eight. Will you pluck your sword out of his pitcher
by the ears? make haste, lest mine be about your
ears ere it be out. You are the king of cats as your name is like Tibbles. Let us fight.

Drawing
Moving around in a circle on stage
Fighting with swords as they move
Romeo comes from behind and yells annoyed
They fight again
Romeo shocked and confused
yells
Draw, Benvolio; beat
down their weapons!
Gentlemen, for shame, forbear this outrage!
Tybalt, Mercutio, the prince expressly hath
Forbidden bandying in Verona streets!
Hold, Tybalt! good Mercutio! Do not fight the both of you, the prince will kill you. Do not do this.

TYBALT under ROMEO's arm
stabs MERCUTIO, and runs away to Stage Right
Mercutio falls down and Benvolio and Romeo rush to help him
I am hurt.
A plague o' both your houses! I am sped.
Is he gone, and hath nothing? Oh no, im hurt. Did he leave and wasn't even hurt?

No, 'tis not so deep as
a well, nor so wide as a
church-door; but 'tis enough,'twill serve: ask for
me to-morrow, and you shall find me a grave man. I
am peppered, I warrant, for this world. A plague o'
both your houses! Why the devil came you between us? I
was hurt under your arm. No, it doesn't hurt too much. I'll be fine. But why did you come between us for godsake?!

Help me into some house,
Benvolio,
Or I shall faint. A plague o' both your houses!
They have made worms' meat of me: I have it,
And soundly too: your houses! Help into some house or I will faint. I hope both of your houses are cursed for what you did!

Exeunt MERCUTIO and
BENVOLIO on Stage Left
Look at audience and speak confidently
This gentleman, the
prince's near ally,
My very friend, hath got his mortal hurt
In my behalf; my reputation stain'd
With Tybalt's slander,--Tybalt, that an hour
Hath been my kinsman! O sweet Juliet,
Thy beauty hath made me effeminate
And in my temper soften'd valour's steel! What he did to Mercutio is not okay, my reputation has been stained by what Tybalt has done to Mercurio, Tybalt who an hour ago had been my cousin! Juliet has made me femenine by her tender loving.

Re-enter BENVOLIO from Stage Left
Romeo opens his mouth in anguish
That gallant spirit hath aspired the clouds,
Which too untimely here did scorn the earth. Mercutio has been killed and is dead now.

Pick up sword dropped on stage by Mercutio with his death.
This but begins the woe, others must end. Thrust sword into the air. What has happened today requires revenge that others must be hurt by.

Tybalt is coming back
Alive, in triumph! and
Mercutio slain!
Away to heaven, respective lenity,
And fire-eyed fury be my conduct now!

Re-enter TYBALT staying on Stage Right
Now, Tybalt, take the
villain back again,
That late thou gavest me; for Mercutio's soul
Is but a little way above our heads,
Staying for thine to keep him company:
Either thou, pointing to him or I, pointing to myself or both, pointing to the both of us must go with him. Tybalt, I must kill you for what you did to Mercutio. Someone must keep Mercutio company and either you or I must go with him. One of them must die.

Thou, wretched boy, that
didst consort him here, points sword at him
Shalt with him hence. You boy who used to hang out with him will follow him to your grave.

Points sword at him
They fight; TYBALT falls
Romeo, away, be gone!
The citizens are up, and Tybalt slain.
Stand not amazed: the prince will doom thee death,
If thou art taken: hence, be gone, away! The citizens have seen what you did to Tybalt. Don't stand there and look amazed. Leave at once.

Benvolio pulling Romeo away to Stage Right by pulling on my shirt.
Romeo standing there shocked
When I am angry at Tybalt, Romeo is very jumpy and incredibly angry. I have made him move all over the stage and try to do many things to show his anger. He is almost yelling as he says lines about Tybalt.
